At long last, I hold my first-born
Safe and secure in the crook of my arm;
A miracle of God's creation,
A bundle of love and charm.
I am happy but exhausted,
Round my lips, a contented smile;
The long months of waiting,
The labour, the pain,
Proved to have been worthwhile.
