Heavy burdens I
carried of sin and guilt
As I toiled up Calvary's side;
I placed them at the foot of the cross,
Repented and bitterly cried.
God said, "You are cleansed by the blood of the
Fret no more, let your soul be still."
But though I left my sin, I still carried my guilt,
As my steps I retraced down the hill.
I felt relieved and praised my Lord,
For I was redeemed at last;
But sometimes my heart was troubled
With regrets I still held from the past.
God said, "Your forgiveness was complete
When you knelt at Calvary;
You should have more trust, for my Word says,
Salvation is full and free.
As far as the east is from the west,
And deep as the deepest sea,
I have cast your sins forever more
So no longer troubled be.
Try to live a life that is worthy of me
Through my strength, but if you should stray,
Confess to me, and I'll cleanse you once again
And you will start a fresh new day."
