My grandma taught
me to economise;
My father showed me how to improvise;
My mother said, "Hold your head up high,
But never, never patronise."
My teachers taught me to count and how to spell;
To parse and analyse as well;
To study hard and never cheat
If I had ambition to excel.
God taught me not to judge my neighbour,
Instead take stock of my own behaviour;
To realise I had an urgent need
For my own personal Saviour.
I realise that only time will tell
If I have learnt my lessons well;
And tried to keep within God's will,
During my endeavours to excel.
