Playing the Game

Cricket was once synonymous
With Sportsmanship at it's very best;
Playing the game was keeping to the rules
Without murmur or protest.

The umpire's decisions were final
Even should there be room for doubt.
The players calmly went on with the game
Never throwing their weight about.

Coaching meant always teaching
In team sports or in running a race,
Not only to have a will to win,
But also how to lose with grace.

Since life has lost many good qualities
Sportsmanship is not the same,
Whilst we still strive for victory,
Let us also play the game.
