In the beauty of a garden
Mary met the risen Lord;
But had to hear Him lovingly call her name
That she might know Him.

In the presence of his closest friends
Thomas met the risen Lord;
But had to touch the nail-prints in His hands
That he might know Him.

In a blinding flash of glory
Saul, too, met the risen Lord;
But had to cast his pride down in the dust,
That he might know Him.

I may not hear Christ lovingly call my name,
I may not touch the nail-prints in Christ's hands;
I may not see Christ in a flash of glory,
But this is my heart's desire:
